Call your U.S. Representative and ask them to do everything in their power to pass the SAFE Act this year.

Friend

The clock is ticking on the Farm Bill and horses, mules, and donkeys could use your help right now!

National equine advocates have been working to pass the Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act (SAFE Act) that would make it illegal to both slaughter equines in the United States and to export them for slaughter to other countries. The best hope for passage of the SAFE Act right now is to include it in the Farm Bill. However, when the House Agriculture Committee released its Farm Bill draft last week, the SAFE Act was not included.

But it is still possible to include the SAFE Act in the Farm Bill through an amendment! Call your U.S. Representative TODAY and urge them to pass the SAFE Act this year. You can do this by:

  1. Looking up your U.S. Representative and their phone number here.
  2. Calling your Representative between 9am and 5pm Eastern Time. You will be connected to a staff member or voicemail. Tell them:

“Hello, my name is ____, and I’m a constituent living in [your town/city]. I care deeply about ending the slaughter of American horses, and I’m calling to urge the representative to vote YES on the amendment to include the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act, H.R. 3475 in the Farm Bill. Thank you."

Please take just a few minutes to speak up for equines at this crucial time. Thank you!
