In my role as Plant-Based Eating Program Manager at Animal Protection New Mexico, I work every day to make plant-based and vegan foods more available and accessible in our state.

One of the ways I do that is by engaging with local restaurants, cafeterias, entertainment venues, and grocery stores and asking them to add plant-based options to their offerings.

This is a personal and professional goal for me. I went plant-based 6 years ago and, as a lifelong New Mexican, I want to share my journey with neighbors and communities around the state. Plant-based eating is a powerful tool we can use to help improve the wellbeing of ourselves, our communities, our land, and the animals we share it with.

Although I eat solely plant-based now, like many people I grew up eating animal-based foods like burgers and pizza, and I still find comfort and joy in those foods today. Fortunately, there are many wonderful products that allow me to enjoy those same foods made completely from plants.

It’s beyond time for New Mexican vegans and vegetariansβ€”and others who don't always choose to eat animal productsβ€”to enjoy the best green chile burger and pizza in the country!

Many national chains have already begun adding vegan options, but I prefer to spend my money locally whenever possible, especially since the best food in the world is made right here in New Mexico.

I ask you, friends of APNM and of the animals, to join me in urging  local business legends and New Mexico institutions, Blake’s and Dion’s, to add plant-based and vegan options to their menus.

Whether you’re a full-time plant-based eater, someone with food allergies or other dietary restrictions, or just enjoy flexible and inclusive menus, we all benefit from vegan options at our local restaurants.

P.S. Friend, I want to hear your thoughts on plant-based eating. Can you spare a few minutes to take our PBE survey?

Whether you are personally affected by the wildfires in New Mexico or are looking for a way to help those in need, APNM is here to help.

APNM's Equine Protection Fund provides assistance with horses, donkeys, and mules in times of natural disasters and other hardships. We're currently working with the New Mexico Livestock Board, Northern New Mexico Fire Relief, and other state and local governmental agencies to help provide equine feed to families and communities affected by the wildfires.

Due to a large number of evacuees, water troughs and feed containers are in critically short supply. If you have these materials to donate, please call the Equine Protection Fund at (505) 803-3770.
